The Prototype: Episode II

Hi!

Last time I wrote here I told you that we had started working on our prototypes and now that we've presented them to our teachers I'll tell you a bit about mine.

I was responsible for prototyping some puzzles for our Challenge Rooms to be solved by multiple players as a group. I had some sort of idea of what I was going to do but I decided I would do some quick investigation so I went on YouTube and watched some gameplay from Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (2015) and We Were Here (2017) to see what sort of puzzles they included and the player's approach to solving them.

I ended up doing two puzzles, one for 3 players and another for 2. Both required the players to talk  to each other and work together to solve them because they all had access to different information.  Here's a quick video explaining how they work.

During the playtest I realized the first one needed some improvements if we were to include it in our game and went a bit more in detail on those issues in our User Feedback Report. The second one went smoothly as it was just a 4x4 jigsaw puzzle where the main goal was to see if the players were able to describe properly to each other what the pieces looked like.

This, together with the Tech Feasibility Report, concluded the First Development Cycle for this project. We have now moved on to the second one, which is focused on control and presentation and the first thing we're doing is preparing a workshop with some potential players to discuss and design ideas for our game.

By next Friday this will most probably be done and we'll be here to tell you how it went, see you then!
