Hello, world! [DevLog 1]

Hi everyone!

This will be our project's first Devlog post and in fact my first ever devlog! I'll be using this post to talk a bit about myself and what I did during the week. Throughout the day, the other members of our team will be posting similar posts!

So, first things first: Hello! My name is Diogo Silva and I'm a 21 year old Engineering Master's student of "Engenharia Informática e de Computadores" at Instituto Superior Técnico (University of Lisbon). I've been fond of videogames for as long as I can remember, and as such I thought it would be natural for me to pursue a career path related to this art form I love. That's how I ended up in this field of study, course and even University!

Moving on, it was during last week that we first got together as a team. At that time it was only me, Daniel and Martim and it was Daniel that first came up with our game's concept - A multiplayer coop "battle-royale" game where players are placed into a maze with an Ancient Greek aesthetic and have to cooperate to complete challenges in order to escape whilst being careful of other players who might attack them (since only a limited number of players are allowed to enter the final portal and win). This concept hooked both me and Martim and as such we spent the rest of our meeting discussing features, problems and solutions, whilst brainstorming  ideas in a post-it board using Miro.

By friday, however, we gained a new member! Diogo Sá joined us and after pitching our concept to him, he agreed to it and we finally had our entire team assembled! We met again on monday to prepare our Game Concept Pitch presentation (that was due tuesday). During the morning and for a few hours at night we prepared a script, a powerpoint and trained our presentation a bit to smooth things out. The day after we presented, got some feedback from our teacher and started our first development cycle!

I'll let each of our members talk about the things they did specifically but, as for me, I started by contributing to our Design Document, which Diogo Sá had created (using Google Docs). Thursday I formated the document using a template I had used for another course and started writing the "First Tweet" (a short description of the game using only 140 characters), some personas and a few scenarios. Today I've continued doing this, and throughout the day I'll write some more scenarios, and continue to add some more stuff to the document!

And that should be it from me. Development will only ramp up from here, and personally, I'm quite excited to see our game evolve from concept, all the way through to completion!

See you next time!

-Diogo Silva
